Fairer
Everyone deserves to make the most of their potential. I want to create more equitable opportunities for residents in Guildford and our villages.
Demanding health services are properly funded
I am demanding more support for overstretched local GPs, better access to dental care and properly funded mental health support that is available and accessible to everyone when they need it.
I have been pushing the Government to increase funding for hospices so that those who need these services can access them.
Fair learning opportunities for everyone
I am passionate about high quality life-long education. I am campaigning for catch-up funding and proper investments in schools, colleges and universities as well as improving access to apprenticeships and vocational training.
Years of neglect under the previous Conservative Government have left too many families across Guildford and our villages desperately struggling to get their children the support they need. Cash-strapped schools are doing their best to provide complex SEND support, but too many vulnerable children are being failed. Families and schools are crying out for help.
That’s why the Liberal Democrats and I are calling for a National Body for SEND - making sure that young people with the highest needs can receive the education they need.
I have also voted against the Government's decision to introduce VAT on independent school fees. I believe that parents should have the choice to select the type of education most appropriate to their children and that this poorly thought through policy will only make the crisis in SEND provision worse.
